THE COUNTDOWN

Gradually, year 2016 is drawing its curtains and we are probably still wondering how time flew. Yes, time flies! Many of us are joyful that we made it this far and are looking forward to the Christmas/New year holidays and the fun activities that come with them. That is beautiful. However, we must not forget that this is also a good time to reminisce about the year.

While we are looking forward to year 2017 expectantly, we should also take some time to take stock of our year. We should reflect on the good, bad and ugly things that have happened. We should appreciate God for bringing us this far and for blessing us beyond our understanding. This is also a time to celebrate ourselves for what we’ve been able to achieve this year. Some people may say the year has been a tough one or say they couldn’t achieve anything…but trust me, if you think back deeply, you’ll surely find at least one good thing you did. And isn’t being alive at this moment despite all odds worthy of celebration? I bet it is! As we are doing this however, we should look at the other side of it all. Before we get carried away, we should look at those important things we’ve left undone, the bad habits we’ve not dropped and things like that. This is not for us to feel like a loser or fall into self-pity, it should serve as a check and a reminder that there’s still a lot ahead of us and as a propeller to move us into having the determination to make the most of the coming year.
Are you down because some prayers are still unanswered? Remember, he makes all things beautiful in HIS time. Are you still holding a grudge against that person? It’s time to let go and let God have his way. Are you feeling bad because it feels like you’ve achieved little or nothing this year? There’s always room for improvement; God is not done with us. Smile and spread love as much as you can this season and never forget the reason for the season-Jesus.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year in advance!

A KIND WORD

“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad”- Proverbs 12:25 (RSV)
At some point in time, we get worried about one thing or the other. It could be a deadline or target we have to meet, it could be pressures from others or it could even be as a result of expectations we have for ourselves that we’ve not been able to live up to. Sometimes, unexpected things such as the loss of a loved one, loss of a job, rape or any form of failure happen, and before we know it, it really gets to us.
Maybe you’re not experiencing any of these right now, but the truth is there are people around you that carry heaviness in their hearts. We are often quick to give the excuse that we don’t have money to give anyone; we forget something as little as a word of encouragement might just be what someone around us needs at that point. Of course, your money or material gifts could be beneficial but you’ll be surprised that sometimes, all that the person needs is a listener who genuinely cares. Let’s see what the Bible says in Isaiah 60:1-3…
1The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek, he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”
This is to tell us that God has called us to proclaim his word and lift up the spirits of those around us with our words. There are people drowning in the ocean of life who need someone to be there just to listen to them, pray with them and reassure them of God’s love for them. You may say you have your own issues to deal with but remember we are the salt of the earth. We should walk in the realization of this fact; spreading love to everyone we come across no matter what we are going through. Also, remember, someone somewhere has it worse than you.
As we journey through the week and beyond, endeavour to be sensitive to the needs of others and do not hold back genuine words of encouragement, affirmation and appreciation. As we brighten the days of others in our own little way, may God cause our lights to shine brighter.

Lead me to the cross

When the storm rages
And my strength fails me

When my heart grows weary
And shouts gradually turn to whisper

Hold my hand
Lead me to the cross

Mirror of the mind

Jealousy, just like happiness, is a state of mind

People who have 'everything'
Are sometimes jealous of those who have 'nothing'

Just like people who are sad
Are sometimes those who have every reason to be happy

Seasons

Just like seasons come and go
And rains don't always start with thunder
A lot happens before we know
And his ways will always leave us to wonder

Shame on death!

With a heavy heart I type
What I’m typing, I don’t really know actually
I see your pictures all over Fb, IG, Whatsapp and BBM
I see all the ‘RIPs’
I see all the ‘we’ll miss you’
And I’m hoping someone will wake me up from this nightmare
And tell me it was just a bad dream
And all is still well

I remember you being wheeled around in the mortuary
And I broke down in tears
Because I couldn’t believe that was really the end
I pass by the cemetery
And memories of how you were lowered into the ground right in front of us flood in

I dial your number sometimes
Hoping I’ll hear your voice at the other end of the line
I wish my phone could ring and I’ll see your name on it
I wish I could wake up to the sweetest message from you
I wish I’ll hear a knock on our door
And see you at the door when I open it
I wish all the beautiful memories could be kept alive
Alive forever

Wondering what’s going to happen to all the passion
The businesses
The dreams
The hopes
The youthfulness
The life
The love

How can forever turn out to be this short?
How do good people just disappear?
How can death be so cruel?
How can someone so full of life become lifeless

Well, I hope you are having a good rest
Send my love to daddy
Tell him I still remember him everyday
Tell him we all miss him
Tell him mummy has been strong
Everybody has been
But now, I don’t know how strong I can get
I don’t know if I have any strength left
But I have to be strong right?
I have to be fine
Yeah, that’s what they say
That’s what everybody wants to see and hear

Help me tell God I think I’m losing it
Tell him to help me to keep on loving him
To keep on moving
To keep on believing

The owner has once again taken one of my dearest people
But what can I do
But believe he knows the best still?
Keep having a good rest till we see again
You’re free from struggles
Free from this cruel world
I won’t say RIP
No, I won’t
How I hate to say this
Sleep, sleep on…
