THE COUNTDOWN

 

Gradually, year 2016 is drawing its curtains and we are probably still wondering how time flew. Yes, time flies! Many of us are joyful that we made it this far and are looking forward to the Christmas/New year holidays and the fun activities that come with them. That is beautiful. However, we must not forget that this is also a good time to reminisce about the year. 

While we are looking forward to year 2017 expectantly, we should also take some time to take stock of our year. We should reflect on the good, bad and ugly things that have happened. We should appreciate God for bringing us this far and for blessing us beyond our understanding. This is also a time to celebrate ourselves for what we’ve been able to achieve this year. Some people may say the year has been a tough one or say they couldn’t achieve anything…but trust me, if you think back deeply, you’ll surely find at least one good thing you did. And isn’t being alive at this moment despite all odds worthy of celebration? I bet it is! As we are doing this however, we should look at the other side of it all. Before we get carried away, we should look at those important things we’ve left undone, the bad habits we’ve not dropped and things like that. This is not for us to feel like a loser or fall into self-pity, it should serve as a check and a reminder that there’s still a lot ahead of us and as a propeller to move us into having the determination to make the most of the coming year.

Are you down because some prayers are still unanswered? Remember, he makes all things beautiful in HIS time. Are you still holding a grudge against that person? It’s time to let go and let God have his way. Are you feeling bad because it feels like you’ve achieved little or nothing this year? There’s always room for improvement; God is not done with us. Smile and spread love as much as you can this season and never forget the reason for the season-Jesus.

My bag of cards

Going through some of my stuff, I saw my bag of cards again. Going through them one after the other, I couldn't help but smile at those beautiful cards with some as old as 12 years. Looking at some of the cards I've received over the years (Birthday, Valentine, Christmas cards), like I do once in a while, I see how the smallest things can mean a lot. I also realised the number of cards declined as the years went by.
 The value of cards have no doubt declined drastically, though many people never cherished them from the start as they feel it's intangible compared to gifts. All the same, cards are lovely pieces that stand the test of time. Yeah, I have collections of gifts (though many have been used and disposed) and there's also the huge collections of good deeds, pictures and memories that are forever in my heart. But somehow, my bag of cards have managed to go everywhere with me.

Above all, remember anything given or done out of love, whether gifts, someone's presence, time or just a hug, should be appreciated. It shouldn't always be about the price tags.

So here is a big thank you to you all for 2015 and even the previous years. You mean so much to me 😁

If I were to make a list, it will be endless
El Shaddai, great is thy fsithfulness

I look farther
And I see the next phase brighter
I say thank you for I see ahead, heights that are greater

Hello...It's Chistmas

This season, December generally is a time of the year that carries so much with it. No matter how much you want to ignore the whole ‘paparazzi’, you can’t help but notice/feel the excitement in the air. With extensive shopping, traffic jam, long queues everywhere including banks, carols, parties, green and red things, hampers and so on, whether you like it or not, you’ll know there is something happening.

It’s Christmas eve and it’s just some minutes to the D-day. Looking back at past years, this season brings back memories. I remember years back when I was always so excited about Christmas because I saw it as a time to get gifts, new clothes, shoes and all kinds of accessories, a time to eat and drink like there’s no tomorrow, a time when everywhere gets decorated and super beautiful, a time to sing Christmas songs and listen to stories about the birth of Jesus and a time to entertain visitors and visit other people too. We were also made to believe there’s really a Father Christmas somewhere whose work was to give people gifts and make children happy at Christmas. I remember the times we visited Father Christmas and he gave us gifts and then, we were told to take pictures with him. As time went on, the reality of the whole thing gradually dawned on me. Even though I knew at some point that Father Christmas doesn’t exist for real and he could be anyone dressed in red and white robe, I couldn’t help but play along and enjoy the celebration. Well…all that is history now…but all the same, those times were good times and seeing kids getting excited about all these things puts a smile on my face.

Christmas is here again with so much excitement with the hustle and bustle. No matter what’s been happening around or on your mind from January till date, let go and enjoy it while it lasts. And don’t forget Jesus is the reason for the season. There is no Christmas without Christ. We should also try to celebrate Jesus in our own way every day. This shouldn’t be limited to December 25^th alone.
